City Beat: Iced space shuttles for sale at Randy's Donuts

174689.ME.1011.RANDYS.03.RRC
Given how hard it might be to see the space shuttle Endeavour moving through our streets Friday and Saturday, why not skip the headaches and eat the shuttle instead?

CitybeatIced space shuttles are for sale at Randy's Donuts in  Inglewood, which is usually open all hours but Thursday night will shut its doors at 8.

What's the point of staying open on Friday? says Ron Weintraub, who owns the joint with his brother Larry. The famous store with the giant doughnut on top is located at the corner of West Manchester and La Cienega boulevards -- and that stretch of Manchester is due to be closed from noon to 5 p.m. Friday.

Officials also are closing many nearby sidewalks, citing safety. Signs already were up in spots on Manchester on Thursday morning.

The Weintraubs opted instead to rent their spot to Toyota for an undisclosed sum which equals more than their daily revenue. It's a perfect location for Toyota, which has offered up a Tundra truck to tow the shuttle over the 405 Freeway across Manchester, right next door to Randy's.

So if you want your iced shuttle, head there soon.

Later Thursday I'll have my full report on the scene at Randy's, where some local residents are pretty mad that seeing the shuttle being transported has been made so difficult.

For now, here's a taste of what I saw, sent out on Twitter on Thursday morning:
