CHP officer shoots suspected car thief in San Diego

A California Highway Patrol officer shot a suspected car thief who was carrying a shotgun and resisting arrest, San Diego police said Saturday.

"Fearing he was about to be shot, the officer fired several rounds," said Lt. Jorge Doran.

The 22-year-old suspect was taken to the hospital with wounds described as non-life threatening. The officer is described as a five-year veteran.
