Cal Poly Pomona police release sketch of robbery suspect

October 27, 2012 |  4:31 pm

Image001Cal Poly Pomona police have released a sketch of the suspect in an armed robbery last week in a student’s dorm room on campus.

The suspect is described as a black man in his mid-20s, 6-feet-2, medium build, with short hair and an unshaven face, according to university police. He was wearing a dark hoodie and dark jeans and smelled of smoke.

The suspect might be armed with a handgun, police said.

The robbery was reported about 9:45 p.m. Thursday at Alamitos Residence Hall. The suspect, brandishing a gun, entered the victim’s first-floor room and tied up the student, police said.

The suspect put the personal property of the student and his two roommates in a duffel bag and fled, police said.

The victim managed to free himself and call campus police.

Police are investigating the possibility that the suspect may have been involved in an Oct. 21 robbery on campus. In that incident, two students were robbed by a man they believed was carrying a gun in his waistband.

The robber fled with a wallet, purse, laptop computer and other personal belongings.

Anyone with information about the suspect in either robbery is asked to call university police at (909) 869-3070.
