Yacht with father accused of abducting kids seen off Half Moon Bay

September 7, 2012 |  1:10 pm

A yacht carrying a father who authorities allege abducted his two children in South San Francisco has been spotted off the coast of Half Moon Bay, officials said.

A U.S. Coast Guard C-130 was flying over the area after local fishermen reported seeing a yacht, Coast Guard officials said.

South San Francisco police said the yacht is being navigated by Christopher Maffei with his children - Devin, 2, and Brooklyn, 3 -- on board.

Investigators said Maffei abducted his children on Tuesday. They allege that the 43-year-old used a rented Ford Fusion to drive to an Alameda marina where he took the yacht named Unleashed. It's unclear whether he borrowed it or stole the boat.

Authorities feared that Maffei maybe sailing to Mexico.
