Wrestling coach accused of molestation in YouTube video

Herbert Daniel OritzPolice are searching for a Rosemead wrestling coach after a YouTube video surfaced in which a male accuses the man of molesting him

Herbert Daniel Ortiz, 29, has been employed as a coach at the Bad News Panthers children's wrestling club in Rosemead since 2010, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The department said in a statement that a 14-year-old boy's mother saw a YouTube video in which "another male alleged he was victimized by the suspect and was warning viewers ... to protect their children."

The mother recognized Ortiz, who is also known as Herbert Ortiz Monroy, as a former assistant wrestling coach at Rosemead High School, the department said. He was a coach at the school from 2007 to 2009.

The mother asked her son if he had been a victim. "Her son then disclosed the sexual abuse by the suspect," the Sheriff's Department said.

Detectives have been unable to locate Ortiz and believe he is trying to elude authorities, according to the department.

Authorities said Ortiz is aware of the YouTube video. His last known residence was in Baldwin Park.

Authorities said there may be additional victims. Anyone with information is asked to call detectives at (877) 710-5273.
