Two San Diego deputies wounded in gun battle near Lakeside

Two San Diego County Sheriff's Department deputies were wounded Tuesday in an apparent gun battle at an apartment building in Lakeside, officials said.

A possible suspect was also wounded. All three have been taken to hospitals.

The conditions of the deputies and possible suspect are unknown.

Dozens of officers from the Sheriff's Department and other agencies have converged on an apartment building in the eastern San Diego County community. The nearby El Capitan High School has been put on lockdown.

Witnesses report hearing a dozen or more gunshots.
