Authorities have arrested two men on suspicion of assaulting a woman in Agua Dulce and threatening to kill her before kidnapping her adult son.

According to a statement from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Palmdale Station, the incident occurred about 2.45 p.m. Wednesday at a residence in the 30000 block of Briggs Road in Agua Dulce. The 59-year-old woman told deputies the men tied her up, assaulted her and threatened to kill her with a handgun.

When the men left, the woman was able to free herself and discovered her 23-year-old son was “missing and believed he had been kidnapped,” authorities said.

A short time after authorities broadcast a description of the men’s car, Santa Clarita Station deputies spotted the vehicle and conducted a felony traffic stop on northbound Interstate 5 at McBean Parkway, authorities said.

Two men, identified as 45-year-old Clyde Richards and Colin Foster, 46, were found inside the car along with a large amount of marijuana, authorities said.

The woman’s son was not inside the vehicle. After a search, a sheriff’s helicopter found the man hiding in a ravine about a quarter of a mile away, authorities said.

He told deputies he had been tied up and forced at gunpoint into the suspects’ vehicle. Richards and Foster allegedly threatened to kill the victim, but he was able to escape and fled the car, taking refuge in the ravine until deputies arrived, authorities said.

The alleged kidnapping victim and his mother both sustained minor injuries, officials said.

Richards and Foster were booked at the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station and charged with assault with a deadly weapon, kidnapping and criminal threats, authorities said. Both were being held on $100,000 bail, according to Sheriff’s Department’s online Inmate Information Center.
