The space shuttle Endeavour embarked on its final journey last week, soaring over millions of people watching the sky for a glimpse of the retired orbiter.

The Times received hundreds of reader photos from across the state and from cities along the craft's route from Florida. We curated some of the best ones here.

"It was such a powerful moment. I looked over to this couple and we all looked down at our arms and all of us had goosebumps. It was one of those moments, like when Whitney [Houston] sang the National Anthem. So amazing," wrote reader Skylar Aud, who shot the photo above on Mulholland Drive overlooking Universal Studios.

After the Endeavour's final landing at LAX on Friday, engineers carefully hoisted the 78-ton shuttle from the back of a modified Boeing 747 with a 37,000-pound yellow sling. The Times captured the epic effort in a time-lapse video.

Endeavour will remain at Los Angeles International Airport until Oct. 12, when it begins its two-day parade across the wide boulevards of Inglewood and Los Angeles before it arrives at its new home at the California Science Center's Samuel Oschin display pavilion.
Plan on watching the shuttle parade through Los Angeles? We'll be accepting reader photos from the two-day event.Tweet your photos to @latimes or @lanow. Don't forget to tell us where you are! Photos can also be uploaded here or emailed to latimes-2do82r@olapic.it.
