Sheriff's deputy wounded in shooting in South El Monte

A Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy was wounded in a shooting in South El Monte early Sunday, authorities said.

The shooting occurred about 9 a.m. at the intersection of Durfee Avenue and Peck Road, said sheriff’s Sgt. Pauline Panis. The officer, who was not immediately identified, was transported to a local hospital.

“His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening,” Panis said.

There were few details available about what prompted the shooting, she said, and no arrests have been made.

“We don’t know if it’s one or two suspects” involved, she said.

No other information was available.
