Rustic Canyon fire smoldering, 80% contained

The blaze in the remote Rustic Canyon area near Pacific Palisades is 80% contained and may be completely out by Sunday night, authorities said.

The blaze began Saturday afternoon and charred about seven acres of steep terrain, according to the latest fire survey, said Eric Scott, a Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman.

"We hope to have it 100% contained by this evening," he said.

The cause of the blaze has not been determined. About 60 campers who were at nearby Camp Josepho were allowed to stay there Saturday night.
