Panda cub at San Diego Zoo gaining weight, still nameless
Panda update: The cub born at the San Diego Zoo on July 29 continues to gain weight and develop satisfactorily, zoo keepers announced this week after examining the animal.
The cub weighs 4.9 pounds, and veterinarians believe that its eyes are almost open. The male remains nameless; by Chinese tradition, pandas are not named until they are 100 days old.
If anyone has a proposed name, in Chinese pinyin, the zoo is accepting suggestions until Monday. The cub is still not on public display but can be viewed on the zoo's panda cam.
