One hiker dead, another critical after being found near Palm Springs

One hiker is dead and another in critical condition from severe dehydration after they were found in a rugged canyon south of Palm Springs, the Associated Press reported.

Authorities said rangers with the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians found the two on a trail around 1:30 p.m. Saturday.  The Riverside County Sheriff's Department said one hiker was pronounced dead at the scene and the other taken to a hospital.

The dead man's name was not released pending notification of relatives.
