North Hollywood man arrested in death of parents

Police arrested a 25-year-old North Hollywood man in connection with the death of  his parents, authorities said Saturday night.

The suspect, Jonathan Mercado, was arrested Friday after police officers responded to a 911 call about 4:20 p.m. reporting a woman slumped in a car, according to LAPD Sgt. Jim Reid. The car was parked on Webb Avenue near Cantara Street in Sun Valley, police said.

In the car, officers discovered the body of a woman who was  later identified as 47-year-old Veronica Mercado, the suspect’s mother.

Police subsequently searched the victim’s home in the 8100 block of Radford Street and found 51-year-old Alexandro Mercado dead, he said.

Both victims died of blunt force trauma, Reid said.

Jonathan Mercado is being held on $2 million bail.
