Brice W. Harris, former head of the Los Rios Community College district in Sacramento, will become the 15th chancellor of California’s community college system, officials announced Thursday.

Harris will replace Jack Scott, a longtime educator and lawmaker, who led the system for three years before retiring earlier this month.

Harris served as chancellor of the four-campus Los Rios district for nearly 16 years. His selection to lead the 112-campus system was announced by community college Board of Governors President Scott Himelstein at a Sacramento news conference.

As chancellor, Harris will receive an annual salary of $198,500. He will assume his post on Nov. 6.
