10-acre brush fire burning near Devore
Firefighters have stopped the movement of a 10-acre brush fire in the Cajon Pass that forced evacuations and destroyed one nonresidential building and damaged a barn, officials said.
The fire was reported just after 3 p.m. in the Devore area, near the Kenwood offramp from Interstate 15, said Bill Peters, a spokesman for the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. The Kenwood offramp remains closed, Peters said.
About 135 firefighters from multiple agencies have been battling the fire. The cause has not been determined but is under investigation, Peters said.
"The responding crews did a great job, and they got on it very, very quickly," he said.
Numerous homes and Kimbark Elementary School in Devore were evacuated, but there have been no reports of injuries, said Jodi Miller, a spokeswoman for the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.
