September 15, 2012 |  4:26 pm

A brushfire at Camp Pendleton has burned more than 500 acres and is moving rapidly north toward the area where the sprawling base borders the Cleveland National Forest, Marine officials said Saturday.

The fire began Friday during a training exercise in the Whiskey Impact Area often used for artillery training, officials said. Firefighters from Camp Pendleton and mutual aid departments have contained the fire in the south and west directions.

There have been no reports of injuries or structures damaged.
