Police investigating fatal shooting in Pasadena

Pasadena police are investigating an overnight shooting near the 210 Freeway that left a man in his 20s dead.

Few details were immediately available about the incident, but officers responded to a report of gunshots near the intersection of Newport Avenue and Stanton Street about 12:10 a.m. Wednesday, according to the Pasadena Police Department.

Police found the victim nearby, and paramedics transported him to a local hospital, where he later died, officials said. No other information about the victim has been released.

The suspect was described as a man in his late teens to early 20s. Detectives ask anyone with information about the shooting to call police at (626) 744-4241.

According to The Times' Homicide Report, there have been 28 homicides within 2 miles of the intersection since Jan. 1, 2007.
