Earthquake: 3.1 quake strikes in east central California

A shallow magnitude 3.1 earthquake was reported Sunday morning 15 miles from Darwin, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 10:59 a.m. Pacific time at a depth of 1.9 miles.

According to the USGS, the epicenter was 19 miles from Coso Junction, 23 miles from Searles Valley, 30 miles from Ridgecrest and 133 miles from Las Vegas.

In the last 10 days, there have been no earthquakes magnitude 3.0 and greater centered nearby.
