Driver dies when car collides with horse in Rolling Hills Estates

A 69-year-old man died early Tuesday after his car collided with a horse that had gotten loose from a nearby stable in Rolling Hills Estates.

The horse was running in the road when the man’s Mercedes sports car struck the horse and then skidded off the road, crashing into a pair of fences.

The California Highway Patrol couldn’t determine if the man had been speeding. The driver was taken to Torrance Memorial Medical Center, where he died.

The horse was euthanized on scene because of its injuries. Authorities contacted the stable owner and  horse owner and were conducting an investigation.
