1 person killed in drive-by shooting in South L.A.

A person sitting on a bench was killed Tuesday afternoon in a drive-by shooting in the Harvard Park area of South Los Angeles, authorities said.

Few details were immediately available because LAPD homicide investigators were at the scene.

According to witnesses, the shots came from a dark, four-door sedan, LAPD Officer Rosario Herrera said.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, Herrera said.

The daylight shooting apparently occurred on the edge of the Jackie Tatum/Harvard Recreation Center, a city facility in the 1500 block of West 62nd Street. The center has a gymnasium/auditorium, a baseball diamond, basketball courts, a football field, picnic tables, a soccer field and tennis courts. The park also has an LAPD “stop-in center,” according to the city’s website.
