At least 11 injured in possible Folsom prison shooting

September 19, 2012 | 12:48 pm

A possible shooting Wednesday inside a state prison in Folsom left at least 11 people injured, officials said.

The Sacramento Metropolitan Police Department received a call at 11:32 a.m. reporting a "shooting/possible riot" in the new building at 100 Prison Road, spokeswoman Michelle Eidam said.

The caller initially reported six victims, but the number was later increased to at least 11. Two fire engines also were dispatched.

At least three victims were taken to hospitals. No further information was immediately available.

[For the record at 2:17 p.m.: A previous version of this post said the shooting occurred in Folsom State Prison. The shooting actually took place at California State Prison-Sacramento, which is a newer building adjacent to Folsom State Prison.]
