Accident closes Angeles Crest Highway at mile marker 27

A search-and-rescue crew was responding late Friday afternoon to a car that went over the side of the Angeles Crest Highway about a mile north of La Cañada Flintridge, officials said.

The car plunged off the east side of the highway about 5 p.m., said California Highway Patrol Officer Christian Cracraft.

A Los Angeles County search-and-rescue unit was dispatched to search for a victim who may have been ejected from the car, he said.

The highway was closed at mile marker 27 as authorities worked at the scene. The CHP said the roadway would probably remain closed for two hours.
