Firefighters, helicopter battle Ventura County brush fire

Map shows area where brush fire was burning in Ventura County near Arroyo Verde Park.
Firefighters in Ventura County on Monday evening were requesting air tankers and a water-dropping helicopter to help battle a brush fire that had burned about five acres north of Arroyo Verde Park.

No structures were immediately threatened, but about 100 firefighters on the ground were working to protect avocado orchards from being overrun by flames, the Ventura County Fire Department said.

Ground crews were being aided by one water-dropping helicopter, but commanders had requested another chopper, three tanker planes and two hand crews, fire officials said.

No injuries were reported in the blaze, which prompted authorities to shut down the park. A cause had not been determined.
