'Sick individual' put camera in Gap dressing room, sheriff says

August 16, 2012 |  7:48 am

Officials are trying to determine who hid a camera in a dressing room at a Gap store in MIssion Viejo.

"They definitely went to some lengths to do it," Orange County sheriff's spokesman Jim Amormino said. "I'm sure it took some planning to do. Obviously, it's a sick individual."

A female employee discovered the camera, which was about the size of an adult's thumb, on Saturday; it was hidden in a frame hung inside a unisex dressing room. Black tape had been placed on the frame to conceal the camera, Amormino added.

The woman alerted authorities, who picked up the camera and sent it to a lab for analysis.

"At this stage, we do not know how long the camera was there, who put it there or what images it has on it, if any," Amormino said.

He added that a suspect would be difficult to pinpoint given the easily concealed nature of the camera. If caught, the person could face charges of placing a concealed camera for sexual gratification.
