Sexual predator targeting sleeping women in Los Feliz
A sexual predator is entering houses and apartments in Los Feliz through open windows and doors, then assaulting young women as they sleep, police said Thursday.
At least three women have reported that they were sexually assaulted or battered inside their Los Feliz homes since March. Authorities believe the man is also responsible for at least 13 burglaries in the neighborhood in recent months, police said.
LAPD's Robbery Homicide Division is investigating the cases, Lt. Andrew Neiman said.
Neiman said the crimes were initially reported as burglaries with the suspect entering through open windows and doors left open on sweltering nights. But further investigation found that the assailant had also made sexual contact with some of the victims.
“One woman initially thought she was dreaming. But later realized she was the victim of a sexual battery,” Neiman said. Police say the man targets single, working women. He has stolen computers, money and other valuables, as well as women’s underwear.
Investigators are cautioning residents to keep windows and doors locked and inaccessible to potential burglars. The suspect is described as a Latino man, 5’7 to 5’10, weighing about 160 to 180 pounds. They believe he is in his mid-20s or 30s with a slim build, dark complexion and a mustache.
