MTA bus, Metro Blue Line train collide near downtown L.A.

An MTA bus and a Metro Blue Line train collided Monday morning at San Pedro Street and Washington Boulevard near downtown L.A.

Los Angeles Fire Department crews were assessing the 40 people involved in the collision, most who were riders on the bus, said Brian Humphrey, a spokesman for the department. The accident occurred at 6:56 a.m.

The bus was traveling from Wilshire and Figueroa to the Artesia Transit Center, according to a transportation official.

The bus toppled a traffic signal after colliding with the train, the official said.
