Modesto homeowner shoots, kills suspected burglar, police say

August 9, 2012 |  8:07 am

Police said they have not arrested a Modesto homeowner who shot and killed a 21-year-old intruder who tried to burglarize his home on Tuesday.

Jonathan Repose, 21, of Hawyard, was shot in the stomach in the 200 block of McClure Road on Tuesday afternoon, authorities said. He jumped a backyard fence and collapsed in a neighbor's yard, where he died.

Police believe the suspect may have been after drugs. They discovered about 100 marijuana plants in different stages of growth inside the home.

Authorities said they were trying to determine how the suspected burglar knew the plants were there, if the grow was legal and whether the shooter was justified.

Police told the Modesto Bee that the homeowner remained at the scene and was cooperating with the investigation.
