Metal debris on 405 Freeway leaves 2 dozen cars with flat tires

Map shows the general area where vehicles received flat tires on the405 Freeway.
Metal debris strewn on the northbound 405 Freeway near Skirball Center Drive on Tuesday night flattened tires on about two dozen vehicles, the California Highway Patrol said.

A number of the vehicles were on the right shoulder of the freeway, the CHP said. Officers were en route to determine whether to close lanes. It was unclear how the metal ended up on the busy artery.

The agency said the first vehicle, a Toyota Prius, received a flat tire shortly before 8 p.m.  The debris was reported to be in the right-hand lane.

No other details were immediately available.
