Marine Lance Cpl. Curtis Duarte of Covina killed in Afghanistan

A Marine from the base at Twentynine Palms has been killed in combat in Afghanistan, the Department of Defense announced Thursday.

Lance Cpl. Curtis Duarte, 22, from Covina, Calif., was killed Wednesday in Helmand province, a Taliban stronghold. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, at Twentynine Palms.
