Man stuck in Palmdale well for at least 24 hours is rescued

CaptureA man trapped in a well on the rural eastern edge of Palmdale for at least 24 hours was rescued Saturday night.

Los Angeles County supervising fire dispatcher Robert Diaz told The Times that the man had been trapped in a well about 6 feet below the surface, and rescuers “had to break the concrete around the manhole” to set him free.

The well is located near the corner of 90th Street East and Avenue Q, a sparsely populated desert area.

Diaz said the man was able to walk on his own after the rescue and was transported to be evaluated by a physician. He has no life-threatening injuries, Diaz said.

KNBC-TV Channel 4, quoting authorities at the scene, said the man fell in the well after dropping something in it and trying to get the object out. The TV station reported that people riding by on horseback heard his cries for help.
