A 19-year-old Los Angeles man was shot in the back three times Monday as he was returning to his home in the Elysian Valley neighborhood, authorities said.

The shooting occurred at around 12:30 a.m. in the 2300 block of Gail Street, north of Dodger Stadium. The victim was still conscious when his mother found him on the ground next to his car, said Sgt. Lisa Phillips of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Northeast Station.

He was transported to Los Angeles County/USC Medical Center, where he was in stable condition following surgery.

Phillips said investigators do not know what sparked the shooting. However, they do not believe it was gang related, she said.
