Man tries to carjack transit bus in Stockton

A man tried to carjack a bus in Stockton over the weekend, police said.

The bus driver had just come back from her break when she saw a man sitting in the driver’s seat, trying to get away, police said. She demanded that he get out, but he ignored her and tried to close the bus doors on her.

He eventually gave up, as police note he got off the bus and ran off toward a nearby bank. At the bank, he confronted a 54-year-old man at the ATM and demanded his car keys and wallet, police said. But the man resisted and the would-be thief gave up.

Police eventually caught up to the suspect, 20-year-old Elijah Edison Mayo, near Caran and Edan avenues. He was arrested without incident.
