LL Cool J’s alleged burglar has lengthy arrest record, police say
The transient who tried to break into the Studio City home of LL Cool J early Wednesday morning has a lengthy criminal record in Orange and Los Angeles counties, law enforcement sources said.
Jonathan Kirby, 59, was arrested on suspicion of burglary and may also face a battery charge, police said.
Los Angeles police said Kirby somehow managed to enter LL Cool J's home. The actor heard the intruder in the kitchen and confronted him about 1 a.m. Wednesday.
Kirby suffered a broken nose and jaw after a fight with LL Cool J and was held until police arrived.
Law enforcement sources said Kirby's lengthy arrest record includes drugs, disorderly conduct and thefts across Southern California.
LL Cool J, born James Todd Smith, rose to fame with musical hits such as "Mama Said Knock You Out." He now stars in the CBS drama "NCIS: Los Angeles."
