La Puente high schooler stabs fellow student, officials say

August 23, 2012 |  6:44 am

Sheriff's deputies in La Puente were searching Thursday for a high school student who allegedly stabbed another student three times, officials said.

The incident occurred about 3 p.m. Wednesday at Basset High School in the 700 block of Ardilla Avenue in La Puente, sheriff's said. Two male students were fighting when one of them stabbed the other in the upper torso three times.

The suspect fled the scene before sheriff's deputies arrived. The victim was taken to the hospital with non-threatening wounds. Authorities said they weren't sure if the fight was gang-related.

Sgt. James Beamon, a spokesman for the Sheriff's Department, called the school "a neutral area" for gangs.

"A lot of the times you can tell. A guy may have tattoos. It may be the clothing that he wears, but in this particular situation, it was unclear to the investigators," Beamon said.
