Authorities investigate inmate death at county jail in Castaic

Authorities on Monday night were investigating the death of a 22-year-old inmate who was being held at a county jail facility in Castaic.

The inmate died after he was spotted "in distress" at the North County Correctional Facility, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said.

"Deputies observed the inmate in distress. They immediately rendered aid to the inmate," the department said in a statement.

The inmate was pronounced dead after he was transported to a local hospital. Authorities said there was no indication that the death was criminal in nature.

No other details were immediately available.
