Emergency pothole repairs close part of 5 Freeway in Downey

Two lanes of the northbound 5 Freeway were closed in Downey on Thursday morning as work crews completed emergency repairs on several potholes, authorities said.

Several motorists called the California Highway Patrol on Thursday morning to report the damaged pavement south of Lakewood Boulevard, said Officer Francisco Villalobos. Caltrans crews were called to the scene and closed the two right lanes for the repair work.

The closure was expected to last until about 10 a.m., Villalobos said.
