1 person dies after plunge from waterfall in Eaton Canyon
A search-and-rescue team was scouring rugged terrain in Eaton Canyon on Wednesday night for two missing hikers, hours after a person died in a fall from a waterfall in the picturesque recreational area.
The man and woman who were hiking were due back at 3 p.m. Wednesday, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said.
The agency's search-and-rescue team was looking for the couple in an area near Eaton Canyon and Henninger Flats.
Earlier, firefighters recovered the body of the person who fell from the waterfall. The age and gender of the victim had not been determined.
Fire officials said the incident is a reminder that people who enjoy the area need to exercise caution.
"It's a fun place to recreate, but certainly dangerous," said Capt. Mark Savage of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
