Earthquake: 4.3 quake strikes near Brawley

A shallow magnitude 4.3 earthquake was reported Monday evening two miles from Brawley , according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 7:01 p.m. Pacific time at a depth of 8.1 miles.

According to the USGS, the epicenter was four miles from Westmorland , nine miles from Calipatria , 15 miles from El Centro and 91 miles from Tijuana.

In the past 10 days, there have been 42 earthquakes magnitude 3.0 and greater centered nearby.
