Deputy kills Yucaipa man attacking him with shovel

August 13, 2012 |  8:11 pm

A San Bernardino County sheriff's deputy shot and killed a man, reportedly under the influence of drugs, who allegedly attacked him with a shovel in Yucaipa early Monday.

Theodore Wann, 23, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a statement from the Sheriff’s Department.

The incident took place about 6:30 a.m. in the 34000 block of Avenue G, according to the statement.

Deputies had been called to the house because Wann had been reported as paranoid and possibly under the influence of drugs.

When they arrived, Wann ran off. When a deputy found him, a fight ensued during which Wann allegedly hit the deputy with a shovel. The deputy shot Wann.

An investigation into the shooting is underway by the department’s homicide unit.

Anyone with information in the case is asked to detectives at (909) 387-3589 or dispatchers at (909) 356-3973.
