Bus catches fire in Huntington Park; no one injured

Approximate location of incident shown in red.

A bus caught fire Thursday afternoon as it was traveling through Huntington Park, causing police to block off the street while fire crews responded, authorities said.

No one was injured in the bus fire, which was reported at 12:13 p.m. on State Street, just north of Florence Avenue, said Lt. Christopher Bonzer of the Huntington Park Police Department.

Bonzer said the driver pulled over once he saw smoke coming from underneath the hood. He did not know if the bus had any passengers. It was not clear what kind of bus was involved, but it was not an MTA bus.

Los Angeles County Fire Department Inspector Quovondo Johnson said a hazardous materials crew  responded to the scene trying to ensure that coolant that spilled from a five-gallon container did not wash into the storm drain. He did not know the cause of the fire.
