Armed robbery suspect arrested in Lancaster

August 26, 2012 |  4:00 pm

Deputies with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department have apprehended a Downey man suspected of robbing an attorney at gunpoint in Lancaster, authorities said Sunday.

Jorge Quinones, 24, was taken into custody Saturday night after deputies found him lying underneath his Chevrolet Silverado truck in the 3800 block of West Avenue K-14.

The incident began that day shortly before 7 p.m., when an attorney walking in the 43600 block of Sierra Vista Drive saw a man wave him over from a parked truck. Investigators said Quinones, who had been inside the truck, brandished a pistol and ordered the lawyer to hand over his wallet and iPhone.

The suspect drove off with the stolen property and the attorney tried without success to follow him, investigators said. When Quinones was apprehended, deputies found the iPhone and wallet, along with property taken during a separate robbery in Palmdale the week before, department officials said.

Quinones was booked at the sheriff's Lancaster Station and held in lieu of $100,000 bail.
