5 Freeway closed in both directions; truck crashes through center divider

The 5 Freeway is closed in both directions in Burbank after a big rig crashed through the center divider at Buena Vista Street.

The crash has jammed traffic for miles, and officials are not sure when the freeway will reopen. [Updated at 5:45 p.m.: One lane of the southbound 5 was reopened.]

The cause of the multi-vehicle crash is unclear, but TV footage showed a big rig resting between the two sides of the freeway.

The California Highway Patrol was trying to get traffic off the freeway, which is close to Bob Hope Airport.

Officials urged people to use alternative routes if they are trying to make flights to the airport.
