14 sex offenders arrested in Wilmington raid

Fourteen registered sex offenders have been arrested for parole violations after authorities conducted a night raid in Wilmington, officials said.

Dubbed Operation Safe Haven, the sweep began around 11 p.m. Tuesday when about 100 federal, state and local law enforcement officers swept through a three-block area near the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, the Daily Breeze reported.

Officers entered motel rooms and apartment homes of about 60 sex offenders and found pornography, cocaine and marijuana, officials told the newspaper.

About 168 sex offenders live in Wilmington, according to the California Megan's Law database.
