Woman's body found on railroad tracks in Vernon

Vernon police were trying to identify a woman's body discovered on some railroad tracks Monday morning.

A passerby called police just before 7:30 a.m. after finding the body in the 4600 block of Fruitland Avenue, said Lt. Jerry Winegar of the Vernon Police Department.

Detectives were still on scene three hours later, but Winegar said it was too early to tell what caused her death.

"We don't know how or why," he said.

No details about the victim were immediately available.
