Will you see 'Dark Knight' this weekend? A Times/Google+ Hangout
July 20, 2012 | 3:41pm
The Times is hosting a live Google+ Hangout on the "Dark Knight" theater shooting in Colorado with reporters Rebecca Keegan and Andrew Blankstein as well as City Editor Shelby Grad. The chat begins at 4:30 p.m. PDT
Los Angeles Police Department officials promised "high-visibility patrol" of theaters as well as other entertainment venues, using both uniformed officers and undercover officers.
Some movie theaters also planned to take precautions and were banning patrons from wearing costumes during "Dark Knight" screenings.
L.A. moviegoers who headed to the theaters Friday despite the deadly shooting in Colorado said they were not concerned about their safety.
"I feel like they've tightened up security so much that there really isn't anything to worry about," said Evelyn Pumar of West Los Angeles. "It was a one-time occurrence with someone that was completely out of their mind, and I feel like we're going to be safe. L.A. is a safe place."
