Teen tourist from Russia killed in boating accident in Castaic

Pyramid Lake
A 16-year-old Russian tourist was killed Sunday when a ski boat collided with a personal watercraft on Pyramid Lake in Castaic, sheriff’s officials said.

The teen was riding in the watercraft at about 3:45 p.m. with another man on Sunday when it turned into the path of the boat, sheriff’s officials said in a news release.

Following the crash, sheriff’s deputies arrived and administered CPR but the boy was pronounced dead at 4:19 p.m. The teen’s 30-year-old passenger was airlifted to a local hospital in critical condition.

Alcohol does not appear to have been a factor in the crash, authorities said.

Authorities believe the ski boat driver and the two men in the watercraft were friends and were vacationing together.
