Soldier from Southern California dies in Afghanistan

A U.S. Army soldier from Southern California has died in Afghanistan, the Department of Defense announced Tuesday.

Sgt. Eric Williams, 27, from Murrieta in Riverside County, died Monday in Pul-E-Alam, the capital of Logar province, near Pakistan. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division, from Fort Bragg, N.C.

No details of the death were released.
