Man suspected of living in Tujunga park shed, growing pot
A 51-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of living in a camouflaged shed in the Tujunga Ponds Wildlife Sanctuary and growing marijuana on the land, authorities said Monday evening.
The shed, hidden amid brush and trees, had four bunk beds, tables, shelves and even fire extinguishers hanging from the walls, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
A rock patio with a barbecue and tables stood in front of the crude structure in a remote area of the park.
Deputies found eight pot plants near the shed, according to authorities. Investigators arrested Robert Downs, who allegedly said he began building the structure about eight months ago with material he bought at a home repair store.
Downs was being held at the county jail in lieu of $30,000 bail.
