Man in wheelchair dies in Redondo Beach accident

A man in a wheelchair waiting at a bus stop in Redondo Beach was killed Saturday morning after a car ran onto the sidewalk.

Two cars collided at the intersection of Artesia Boulevard and MacKay Lane about 9:15 a.m., and one of the cars "as a result of that collision went on the sidewalk," said Sgt. Fabian Saucedo of the Redondo Beach Police Department.

The man in the wheelchair was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Saucedo said the victim has not been identified and that "we have multiple birth dates on him and we're trying to determine who exactly he was."

There is a four-way light at that intersection, and Saucedo said it was unclear what caused the initial accident. No one has been arrested, and the investigation is ongoing.
