Approximate location of incident shown in red.

Authorities were looking Tuesday for the driver of a car that struck and killed a 20-year-old man as he stood on the 10 Freeway in Baldwin Park.

Ruben Haro Jr. of Fontana walked into the right lane of westbound traffic near Frazier Street just before 11 p.m. Monday when a car hit him, throwing him into the air and into the path of a second vehicle, the CHP said.

The driver of the second vehicle, identified as 47-year-old Nam Trinh of El Monte stopped and called 911, CHP said. The first car, described as a brown compact, drove off.

Haro was pronounced dead about 20 minutes later, CHP said. Authorities said it was not known why he walked onto the freeway. The freeway was closed for about two hours after the incident.

Authorities are asking anyone with information to call (626) 338-1164 or (323) 982-4900.
